
MISSION: At the Craft and Technology Department, we aim to train students to become more than designers, engineers or artists. Our flexible learning approach ensures that we nurture a new breed of students who are highly skilled and ready to excel in a diverse landscape.
ACHIEVEMENTS 2010 - 2011
Singapore Design Award (SDA) 2010
SDA was first launched by the then Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Goh Chok Tong in 1988, at the first Singapore International Design Forum. Organised by Designers Association Singapore, SDA is a yearly event to recognise cutting-edge innovative designs to designers and design firms locally and internationally. There are 4 categories: Singapore, International, Southeast Asia and Young Designers. The entries were judged by a panel of 24 internatinal judges from countries such as US, UK, Austria, Finland, Germany, Israel, South Africa, India, Japan and Singapore. They were all from various design disciplines such as graphic and packaging, product, interior, new media and corporate branding.

BRONZE (Young Designer) by Lim Jingen.
Jingen was the youngest awardee and the only winner from the New Media category. This project also won GOLD and BEST IN DIGITAL MEDIA DESIGN at the 11th National Design Competition organised by W4 Cluster and Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

CREATIVE INNOVATION AWARD by Muhammad Riyaas
THE PROJECT: THE NEWSPAPER COLLECTOR is a product designed to solve the recycling corner in the classroom. It is able to collect newspapers in an orderly manner and tie them up nicely without needing them to be removed from the box. It is also designed to transport the old newspapers to the school's recycling point conveniently.

CHAMPION (Junior Category). Our 3 students (Salwah Rashid 3E1, Nikitha Vadi 3E1 and Maythavee Apirugnunchai 3E1), with teacher-in-charge, Mr Zaim Nariman won an all-expenses paid educational trip to Paris and Toulouse, France to visit A380 airbus hangar from 6 - 11 Dec 2011. They will also get the chance to visit the hangar at Singapore Airlines Engineering Hangar. They will travel with the Senior category champion team from Temasek Polytechnic and accompanied by representatives from EDB and Airbus.

Study Trip to Australia 07
A School Cluster W4 project, Bt View Secondary organized a study trip to Australia to learn more about design education. Six out of the ten teachers who went to four institution of higher learning in Sydney and Canberra on the 5 days trip (10 to 14 Dec 07) came from our school. The other two schools are Hua Yi and Yuan Ching Secondary Schools.
The objectives of the trip is to:
• To enhance the professional knowledge and skills of teachers i.e., capacity building to develop an environment conducive for digital media design;
• To enable teachers to leverage on the knowledge gained on this trip for curriculum customisation,so as to better promote the subject and to engage students in the area of digital media design; and
• To enhance our pupils’ competency in digital media design, to arouse interest and allow them to keep abreast with technology advances and application.
Pull-Out-Program (POP) for High Ability Pupils in Jun and Nov 08

A School Cluster W4 project, Bt View Secondary together with Hua Yi Sec organized the POP for High Ability Pupils as enrichment to pupils contemplating design as a career. Part of the programme included partnering Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic in conducting a customized programme for the students.

Design Competition and Exhibition For Primary and Secondary Schools |
Now into its 9th year, we co-organized this event with Ngee Ann Polytechnic for the second time and this year we have a total of 49 entries from 10 primary schools and 122 entries from 11 secondary schools taking part in the competition. It was held at Ngee Ann Polytechnic on 18 July 08 and attended by approximately 300 over pupils. BVSS did well in the competition. Fathin Atikah bte Mas’ud won the Silver Award for her entry ‘Death Unlimited’. As for the Special Mention Awards; ‘The Environment’ by Thiagan s/o Narayanasamy and ‘School Robot’ by Tristan Lim You Jie won the Best in Graphic Design and Best in Multimedia respectively.
